Our name stems from US military history and legend. Continental Army Officer George Rogers Clark was given the moniker "Long Knife," and his ragtag militia the "Long Knives," by Native American tribal leaders as a sign of respect after witnessing their successful military campaigns that defied all odds against the British, securing the Western front and expanding the territory of the 13 colonies during the Revolutionary War. The name has been carried on in military tradition through the US Army’s 4th Squadron of the 3rd Cavalry Regiment.
